Dr Bryan Mitchelson

Bryan is a paediatric cardiologist and staff specialist at Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland. He is the clinical lead in the management of paediatric heart failure, cardiomyopathy and heart transplantation. He also manages young people with all forms of congenital and acquired heart conditions. Bryan works with the Cardiac Inherited Disease Group, which is a national service investigating and managing heart conditions that run in families.

Bryan graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2008, and trained in general paediatrics in Australia (Adelaide and Hobart). He completed advanced training in paediatric cardiology at Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland, and Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

Although Bryan was born and raised in Australia, he has strong connections with Aotearoa, being tangata whenua (Ngāti Mahanga hapu ō Waikato / Tainui). This has driven his passion toward improving outcomes for Maori children with all types of heart conditions.
