Dr Matt O'Connor

Hailing from London, Matt undertook his medical training at the University of Cambridge and gained a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery and a Master’s in Pharmacology. He completed his cardiology training and Fellowship in electrophysiology and cardiac devices at Wellington Hospital. Matt then returned to the United Kingdom to work as a Consultant Electrophysiologist at The Royal Brompton Hospital – a world-leading centre for electrophysiology. Matt was instrumental in establishing the advanced conduction system pacemaker program at The Royal Brompton Hospital.

Matt’s specialist interests include the management of cardiac arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation/tachycardia, SVT and ventricular tachycardia) and personalised cardiac device selection and implantation. He performs catheter ablations and device operations at Auckland City and Mercy Hospitals for the full spectrum of cardiac arrhythmias.

Matt works full-time as a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Auckland City Hospital and retains the status of Honorary Consultant Electrophysiologist at The Royal Brompton Hospital. He collaborates with international research groups to improve the care of patients with cardiovascular disease, has published widely, and has co-authored chapters in cardiovascular textbooks.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys bike racing and long-distance running. Matt aims to deliver the highest quality of personalised and tailored care to improve the quality of life of patients
with cardiac conditions.
