Dr Shakiya Ershad

Dr Shakiya Ershad is a cardiologist with specialties in imaging, including complex echocardiography (TTE and TOE), advanced heart failure management and general cardiology. She currently works as a specialist at Auckland City Hospital and consults at The Heart Group.

Shakiya completed her medical degree from the University of Otago and returned to her hometown (Wellington) to complete her general medical and cardiology training. She subsequently received her fellowship at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Following this, she completed an imaging fellowship at Wellington Hospital with particular attention to complex echocardiography, including 3D and structural imaging, under the guidance of local and
international specialists.

Shakiya then completed her second fellowship in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant at Auckland City Hospital. She was able to gain significant knowledge and skill regarding all stages of heart failure, from the initial diagnosis to cardiac transplant and mechanical support.

Shakiya is passionate and dedicated to improving the community's cardiovascular health and feels privileged to look after her patients.

In her spare time, Shakiya enjoys taking her two boys bike riding and two dogs to the park.
